250 Million Shekel Transport Hub to Tackle Tel Aviv Congestion

Israel is launching a major new transport interchange project worth over 250 million shekels (approximately £55 million) near Highway 40 in the Gush Dan region, aimed at alleviating chronic traffic congestion in and around Tel Aviv. The facility, known as the Tayeset Interchange Station, will serve as a crucial hub to encourage commuters to shift from private vehicles to public transport.

The new interchange will feature 180 dedicated charging stations for electric buses, providing the infrastructure needed to support Israel’s transition towards cleaner public transport. The facility will also include a substantial car park with approximately 1,200 parking spaces, allowing commuters to park their vehicles and transfer to buses for their onward journey.

The project forms part of broader efforts to reduce traffic congestion in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, which has become increasingly problematic over recent years. By creating a modern transport hub that facilitates the transition from private cars to electric buses, planners hope to decrease congestion on major routes and reduce emissions. The site’s location near Highway 40 makes it strategically positioned to intercept traffic heading into and out of the city’s central areas.

The interchange represents a significant investment in Israel’s public transport infrastructure and reflects the country’s commitment to modernising its bus fleet with electric vehicles. Once operational, the facility is expected to process thousands of commuters daily and significantly improve traffic flow in the greater Tel Aviv area.
