Former Israeli MP Ofer Shlach has launched a scathing critique of the government’s handling of the Gaza conflict, arguing that the country’s regional standing has been severely damaged by recent policy decisions. Speaking on radio station 103FM, Shlach suggested that Israel is no longer a decisive player in Middle Eastern affairs, a stark assessment from within Israel’s political establishment.
Shlach’s comments extend beyond the Gaza issue to criticism of Defence Minister Yoav Gallant’s management of a recent controversy involving Central Command chief Major-General Avi Blot. The former legislator appears to be questioning the broader strategic direction of the government during what has been an extraordinarily challenging period for Israeli security and diplomacy.
The remarks underscore growing internal Israeli debate about whether current military and political strategies are achieving their intended objectives or instead isolating Israel further in an already complex regional environment. Shlach, a member of Israel’s Blue and White party, has previously been critical of government policies, and his latest comments suggest frustration among some Israeli political figures with the trajectory of the conflict and its aftermath.
