Theodor Herzl’s grandparents laid to rest in Jerusalem, completing founder’s final wish

The remains of Simeon and Rebecca Herzl, the grandparents of Theodor Herzl, have been brought from Serbia and laid to rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The repatriation marks what officials describe as a significant moment in Jewish and family history, honouring the legacy of the founder of modern Zionism. Theodor Herzl, who died in 1904, is widely regarded as the architect of the Jewish state and the Zionist movement that ultimately led to Israel’s establishment in 1948.
