Two Israeli military officers have been killed in a bomb blast while clearing a booby-trapped building in southern Lebanon. Major (Reserve) Harel Birnshtock, a platoon commander in the 55th Parachute Brigade, and Sergeant Major (Reserve) Tamir Vakhnin, a combat medic, died in the explosion at Majdal Zoun, an area under Israeli military control. Four additional reserve fighters were seriously wounded in the incident. The Israeli military has not yet determined whether the explosive device was planted before or after the ceasefire took effect. In response to the incident, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has accused Hezbollah of a “blatant breach” of the ceasefire agreement and launched retaliatory strikes against the militant group. The deaths mark a continued security concern following the ceasefire arrangement in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
