Contamination threat to major Israeli water supply from Palestinian sewage

Breaking

A new report from the environmental group ‘Green Now’ has revealed that the Mountain Aquifer, which supplies approximately one-third of Israel’s drinking water, faces ongoing contamination from Palestinian sewage. The aquifer provides approximately 600 million cubic metres annually.

According to the report, approximately 65 million cubic metres of illegal sewage is discharged annually into the ground and infiltrates groundwater, primarily from the Palestinian sector. Laboratory tests have detected nitrogen concentrations exceeding safe standards by tens of times, alongside heavy metals and hormone-disrupting substances.

This represents a significant public health risk affecting the water security of the nation.
