A UN commission has warned that Israel may have committed war crimes in Syria, following an investigation into the detention of 49 Syrians, including two children, who are being held by Israel as of June. The commission’s findings represent a serious allegation against Israeli authorities.

Israel has rejected the investigation and the allegations, denying any territorial aspirations in Syria and disputing the findings of the UN probe. Israeli officials have characterised the investigation as biased and politically motivated.

The report raises international concerns about the treatment of detained individuals and compliance with international humanitarian law, amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Syria along their border.
