Sweden’s centre-left coalition has won elections with 176 seats against 173 for the centre-right, forcing Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to step down. The Social Democrats under Magdalena Andersson are set to lead the new government.

The new Swedish administration has immediately demanded that the European Union freeze its association agreement with Israel and restore funding to the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA). This represents a significant diplomatic shift in Swedish policy towards Israel.

The coalition government also includes the Left Party, which has been tainted by antisemitic controversies, complicating the government formation process. The new administration’s composition and stated positions signal potential friction with Israeli interests in international forums.
