Investigators in the United Arab Emirates are questioning Hamam al-Hammami, a Flydubai co-pilot who allegedly planned to crash flight 1073 into Tel Aviv. According to Israeli media reports, al-Hammami stated: “I looked into which airline flies to Tel Aviv. That’s why I chose flydubai.”
The attempted hijacking was thwarted when passengers and crew members overpowered the co-pilot. Israeli Air Force reservists detected the aircraft as it flew between Saudi Arabia and Jordan, appearing to be heading towards Tel Aviv, allowing for rapid response coordination.
Passengers reported significant fear during the incident, with some concerned the aircraft might be diverted to Iran or Yemen. The situation was only resolved when the plane landed safely at Tabuk airport in Saudi Arabia, where passengers disembarked and entered the terminal.
This incident represents a serious aviation security threat and demonstrates attempted hostile action targeting Israeli civilian infrastructure.
