German intelligence chief arrested on suspicion of spying for Azerbaijan

Germany’s Der Spiegel has reported that August Hanning, former head of the BND intelligence service, maintained contact with Azerbaijani intelligence operatives. Hanning allegedly paid a former aide for years to leak classified documents, which he used to prepare security analyses for the Azerbaijani agent. Investigation continues into whether classified material reached foreign hands.
