Trump fires White House press secretary Katie Zaharchenko after five days over false credentials

Breaking

US President Donald Trump has dismissed Katie Zaharchenko from her position as White House press secretary just five days into her tenure, following significant controversy over her credentials. Zaharchenko, who replaced Carolynn Leavitt, faced immediate difficulties during her first press briefing, which lasted only 14 minutes and included just three questions.

The dismissal came after it emerged that Zaharchenko had been presented as a lawyer despite not having passed bar examinations. She struggled to explain the credential discrepancy during questioning, according to Ynet reporting.

Trump signalled his doubts about her suitability for the role, stating “maybe this isn’t for her,” to which she responded it was her choice to leave. The rapid departure represents a significant staffing change in the early days of the Trump administration and raises questions about vetting procedures for senior White House positions.
