A group of armed Syrian militants attempted to infiltrate Jordan under cover of darkness, triggering a significant security incident on the Syria-Jordan border. According to a statement from the Jordanian Army, the gunmen tried to cross into Jordanian territory using heavy fire, but Jordanian forces successfully engaged them, killing or wounding several of the attackers.

The remaining members of the group managed to retreat back into Syrian territory. The incident marks an escalation of regional tensions following the deadly church bombing in Jordan and subsequent Jordanian military response that resulted in seven deaths in Syria.
