Following the "Maariv" publication: the family of the Holocaust survivor congratulates the recognition of him by the court

Following the publication in "Maariv", in which we revealed that the state refuses to recognize Menachem Nevo as a Holocaust survivor after he had been abroad for several years, today (Tuesday) the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court accepted the appeal filed by legal aid on Nevo's behalf, and determined that it recognizes him as a survivor Shoa, who is entitled to a monthly allowance.

Menachem's wife, Mirta, told "Maariv": "We were very happy when we heard about the judges' decision to recognize Menachem as a Holocaust survivor, our excitement is very great. Menachem was shocked when we finally informed him that it was decided to recognize him. Justice was done, the truth was revealed."

She added: "I think it's a big plus for the judges, who see the positive part of their work. We were very excited to hear that Menachem was recognized. This is the end, but not the end."

She explained her words: "Until we see the results on the ground – we will not be completely calm. We hope that no appeal will be filed against the decision to recognize Menachem as a Holocaust survivor. Thank you to Maariv for publishing the story, to attorney Michal Pomerantz and the judges."

As mentioned, the 89-year-old Nevo, who escaped with his family from Germany during World War II when he was four years old, asked the Authority for the Rights of Holocaust Survivors to recognize him as a Holocaust survivor entitled to a monthly allowance. However, due to the time he spent abroad as a state mission in the 1950s, the authority refused his request. Nebo applied for legal aid at the Ministry of Justice, and following a petition filed by the legal aid on his behalf, the court has now ruled – Nebo will be recognized as a Holocaust survivor who is entitled to a monthly allowance.
