"Maariv" survey: 60% of Israelis fear being harmed by violence in the public sphere

Against the background of the rising violence on the streets of the country in general, and the many murders in Arab society in particular, strategic advisor Yossi Tatika initiated a survey for "Maariv" conducted by Dr. Menachem Lazar, director of the Panels Politics Institute.

The survey data shows that 60% of Israelis are afraid of being harmed by violence or the threat of violence in the Israeli public sphere, to a very large or fairly large extent.

The survey also shows that 36% fear being harmed by violence or the threat of violence in the public sphere only to a small extent, and another 4% have no opinion.

The segmentation shows that the Arab respondents make up the majority of the public who fear being harmed by violence – 72%, compared to 57% of the Jewish sector. Also, according to the segmentation there is no difference between respondents according to political affiliation or voting in the last Knesset elections.

Analyzing the answers according to demographic characteristics, it was found that those who fear more than others are women – 65%, secular or traditionalists – 64% and residents of the Tel Aviv district – 72%. It also shows: 54% of men are less afraid of being hurt compared to women, as are ultra-Orthodox – 38% and residents of the Jerusalem and Yosh districts – 35%.

513 respondents participated in the internet survey, which is a representative sample of the adult population in the State of Israel from the age of 18 and older, Jews and Arabs. The sampling error in the survey, which took place on May 8-9, is 4.3%.
