After the screening of "The Bibi Files": Netanyahu demands that a criminal investigation be opened against Drucker

After the screening of the film "Tiki Bibi" in Toronto: In recent days, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appealed to the Legal Advisor to the Government and the Commissioner of Police demanding that they open a criminal investigation against News 13 journalist Raviv Drucker for his alleged part in publishing excerpts from the Prime Minister's police investigations.

"The publication of the audio and visual documentation from the prime minister's investigations is not an oversight or a mistake," claims the letter sent by Netanyahu through his lawyers Amit Haddad, Israel Wallnerman and Noa Milstein. "But Mr. Drucker's conscious and deliberate conduct, as part of a long tract, intended to inappropriately influence the proceeding against the Prime Minister, with the aim of unlawfully harming the Prime Minister's most basic rights."

In Netanyahu's previous legal appeal regarding the film, Drucker clarified his part in the production of the film: " Alex Gibney asked to help me for the preparation of the film as a content consultant both for Netanyahu's investigations and for other issues discussed in the film," stated Drucker. "My role in the production, therefore, consisted of consulting the content and coordinating the interviewees. The production company I own also assisted in the technical production of some of the interviews as well as locating and obtaining relevant archive footage. I was also interviewed for the film. This involvement translated into the title of associate producer, together with 3 associate producers others, but I have no ability to control – as mentioned – the decisions regarding the screening of the film."

In his latest letter, Netanyahu rejects this position: "A joint operation is anyone who participates in preparing the conditions and means to commit the crime, even if he is not the one who performs the last action in the chain of actions," he emphasizes in his appeal to the Ombudsman and the Commissioner. In addition, Netanyahu demands that the source of the leak of the materials to Gibni be investigated, and refers to the public statements of the producer who said that at the end of 2023 a source approached him and offered him the documentation of the investigations for the purpose of making a film.

"In these circumstances, in view of the flagrant, blatant and deliberate violation of the law, we request that it be your turn to immediately open a criminal investigation as detailed above, both in the case of Raviv Drucker as a joint perpetrator of the offense according to Section 13 of the Criminal Procedure Law, and in the case of the continuation of the illegal leaks" , Netanyahu writes.

Raviv Drucker refused to comment.
