Former US President Joe Biden has filed a lawsuit against the American Department of Justice seeking to prevent the publication of recordings and transcripts from conversations with his authorised biographer. The legal action was filed in Washington on Wednesday, ahead of a scheduled June 15th release of the materials, which were originally used in a federal investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. Biden’s legal team argues that releasing the recordings would violate his privacy rights and potentially set a damaging precedent for future presidents working with biographers. The materials in question were gathered during the special counsel investigation led by Robert Hur, who concluded last year that while Biden had retained classified documents after leaving office, prosecution was not warranted due to the former president’s age and memory issues. Former President Donald Trump responded to the lawsuit by characterising Biden as a corrupt politician, continuing the bitter exchanges between the two former rivals.
