The Democratic Republic of Congo’s government has reported that confirmed cases of Ebola in the country have risen to 1,406, with 438 deaths recorded so far. The figures, released on Thursday, represent a continuing spread of the deadly virus across the eastern regions of the vast African nation. Health authorities have been working to contain the outbreak, which remains one of the most serious public health emergencies in the region.
The confirmed cases have been documented across three eastern provinces: Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu. These remote and densely forested regions have presented significant challenges for medical teams attempting to contain the virus, which is spread through contact with blood or body fluids of infected people or animals. The outbreak has strained resources in areas already affected by ongoing conflict and instability, hampering efforts to isolate patients and trace contacts.
