Two cousins grew up as brothers in a tight-knit family, their bond forged through childhood and strengthened through military service. Sergeant Ben Cohen and Corporal T., as he is identified in this account, enlisted in the Israel Defence Forces together and served as infantry fighters in the same unit. “Our connection was very deep,” T. recalls with longing for the companionship they once shared.
Their inseparable relationship came to an abrupt and devastating end in March during a confrontation with Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon. Ben was killed during the encounter whilst T. was managing operations from a command centre, leaving T. to process the loss of a beloved family member from a distance. The sudden death shattered what had been a lifelong partnership spanning from childhood through their military years.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, T. has committed himself to honouring Ben’s memory by continuing the path his cousin walked. This promise represents both a personal tribute to their deep relationship and a determination to preserve the legacy of a soldier who gave his life in service to his country. For T., carrying on in Ben’s footsteps is a way of maintaining the profound connection they shared, even as he navigates the grief of losing him.
