Defense Minister Yoav Galant approved the recommendation of the Israel Defense Prize Committee for the year 2018, which will be awarded this year in the capacity of the President, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of Staff and the Director General of the Ministry of Defense on June 13 at the President's House.
The committee appointed by Minister Galant this year included the chairman Colonel (res.) Udi Adam, Colonel (res.) Roni Numa, Prof. Ofer Furstenberg from the Weizmann Institute and the secretary of the committee Mr. Asher Wagner. On the 75th anniversary of the country's independence, the committee recommended awarding the Israel Security Award to four outstanding projects that made a significant contribution to the country's security, and to maintaining its technological and operational strength on the battlefield.
The winning projects: a classified system in the development of the Spectrum and Cyber Defense Division, in the process of its development and operational operation, all branches of the IDF participated, including the IT Division, the Air and Space Division, the Intelligence Division, and the Sea Division. This is a unique cyber defense system that makes groundbreaking use of the world's most advanced technologies in order to guarantee the IDF security and freedom of action in the digital space, in the face of advanced and developing cyber threats.
Another project, the result of cooperation between the General Security Service and Unit 8200 of the Intelligence Division of the IDF, whose goal is the development and implementation of a unique technological system that enables intelligence and security superiority in many sectors. The system is groundbreaking and has a significant contribution to the actions of the intelligence community in the face of security challenges.
Another project is a venture created by cooperation between the Mossad and Unit 8200 of the Intelligence Division of the IDF, and has a significant and unique strategic contribution to the security of the state, embodying within it technological innovation and ground-breaking and extraordinary operational daring.
Another prize will be awarded to a joint venture of the military formation in the intelligence wing, the air and space arm, the sea arm, the aerospace industry and the Rafael company, which is an extraordinary technological solution in the framework of which a breakthrough operational capability was achieved that directly contributes to maintaining the qualitative advantage of the IDF and the security of the State of Israel . The project combines a number of innovative and unique technological developments made possible thanks to the vision, determination and creativity of all the project partners.
