Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a telephone discussion focused on efforts to prevent regional escalation and halt a broader crisis expansion. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry reported the conversation centred on coordination to contain the regional conflict.
The discussion occurred against the backdrop of intensifying fighting between Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces in Yemen, as well as following Egyptian Parliament’s authorisation of measures related to regional security matters. The two nations agreed to maintain close coordination on preventing further escalation.
The diplomatic engagement reflects concerns among key Arab states about the potential for wider regional conflict, with Egypt and Saudi Arabia positioning themselves as stabilising forces in the Middle Eastern security environment.
