President Isaac Herzog has announced that Gideon Eisenkot will receive the mandate to form a new government, according to the Jerusalem Post. This represents a significant political development in Israel’s ongoing government formation process.
According to reporting from the Times of Israel and Haaretz, the Ra’am party (an Arab-led faction) has indicated willingness to support an Eisenkot-led government even without a formal coalition agreement. However, the broader Joint List of Arab parties will not back such a government, though sources indicate they will not actively move to topple it either.
The Jerusalem Post notes that should all attempts to form a government fail, the Knesset would be dissolved and another election would be held, returning Israel to electoral uncertainty.
