Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has dismissed Israeli and Greek concerns over Turkey’s acquisition of American F-35 fighter jets, declaring that such opposition has “no place in my world”. The comments, reported by Reuters, underscore rising tensions between Turkey and its NATO ally over military capability and regional balance of power.
Israel has previously raised concerns about Turkey obtaining the advanced stealth aircraft, fearing the jets could pose a security threat given historical tensions between the two countries. Greece has similarly objected to Turkey’s acquisition of the fifth-generation fighter jets, citing its own strategic interests in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Turkey’s push to acquire the F-35s comes amid broader defence modernisation efforts and geopolitical positioning in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions. The Turkish government has sought to strengthen its military capabilities as it navigates complex relationships with regional and Western powers.
