French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced Monday that he has instructed government representatives in districts to impose local and limited curfews to prevent further riots and looting. The government has not ruled out declaring a state of emergency if necessary, though this option is not currently under consideration.
Lecornu also accused far-left extremist groups of attempting to promote chaos with the aim of disrupting the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for April 18, 2027 (first round) and May 2, 2027 (second round). According to the Prime Minister, intelligence agencies have warned of potential attempts to disrupt the electoral process.
The curfew measures come amid significant civil unrest in France, with multiple sources reporting on the government’s response to ongoing disturbances across the country.
