A senior Israeli political figure revealed Thursday that the situation in Gaza did not feature in discussions between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump. The official stressed that Israel’s position remains uncompromising: Hamas must be completely dismantled, all weapons removed from Gaza, and the territory fully demilitarised before any political settlement can be considered.
According to the Israeli official, a proposed 15-point framework being discussed does not adequately address these core Israeli demands. In response, Israel has formally submitted its objections through Tony Blair, the international envoy handling ceasefire negotiations.
The official reiterated that Israel will not withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor — a strategic buffer zone along Gaza’s southern border with Egypt — unless Hamas is fully disarmed and Gaza is completely demilitarised. This represents a hardline stance that suggests significant obstacles remain to reaching any comprehensive agreement on the territory’s future status.
The revelation underscores the gap between Israeli security requirements and international proposals being circulated, as various parties attempt to negotiate an end to the conflict.
