Iran and US forces clash over vessels in Gulf of Oman amid maritime tensions

Breaking

A significant maritime incident has unfolded in the Gulf of Oman involving competing claims from Iranian and American military forces. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that a cargo ship sank after striking a mine in the Strait of Hormuz, whilst a UK agency reported that a Singaporean-flagged vessel was struck by a projectile and sank in the same region.

Separately, the US military destroyed an Iranian-affiliated dhow in the Gulf of Oman after safely evacuating its crew, according to CENTCOM. A spokesperson confirmed that “crew members were safely removed prior to the destruction of the dhow, with repatriation efforts ongoing.”

It remains unclear whether the Iranian and UK reports refer to the same vessel or different incidents, but together they indicate heightened naval tensions in strategically critical Gulf waters.
