Israeli election results: Coalition negotiations underway as final ballot count determines government composition

Breaking

Israel’s election commission is conducting a final count of approximately 480,000 double-envelope ballots that could significantly alter the mandate distribution among parties. The count began at 01:00 and is being broadcast live from the Knesset, with results potentially affecting which smaller parties survive the threshold.

Following the election results, coalition negotiations have intensified across the political spectrum. The right-wing bloc is consolidating around Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has pledged continued partnership with right-wing coalition members Ben Gvir and Smotrich. However, Netanyahu’s attempts to engage with Haredi party leaders Arie Derei and Eliykim Shitrak have been rebuffed, with both declining to meet at this stage.

Meanwhile, the Change bloc is pursuing efforts to replace Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana with support from Arab parties, though disagreements persist over his replacement. Potential candidates include Yair Lapid and others, though significant opposition has emerged to some proposals. Concerns are mounting that the timing of a Knesset speaker election could complicate future unity government formation.

Political sources indicate public support for a government led by Netanyahu, but with alternative coalition partners. A proposed emergency government of limited duration under Netanyahu’s leadership is being considered as a potential solution for the Change bloc.
