Israeli musician Aviod Draf has released a new single titled ‘Spreading Wings’ that sheds light on his family’s deeply personal struggle with his 15-year-old son Tov-Roiy’s diagnosis of Morquio syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. The heartfelt track features collaboration with prominent religious figure Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Bari, known colloquially as ‘Hinuka’ in Israel’s religious music scene. Morquio syndrome is an extremely uncommon metabolic disorder that affects bone development and can result in severe physical complications, making the condition a significant challenge for affected families. Through the song, Draf appears to be processing his son’s medical journey whilst raising awareness amongst the wider Israeli public about rare genetic diseases that receive limited attention. The collaboration between the musician and the respected rabbi reflects the intersection of personal faith and artistic expression in navigating family hardship.
