An Israeli academic has been indicted on charges of preparing to commit an act of terrorism, extortion by threats, and obstruction of justice, according to the Jerusalem Post.
During a court hearing, the accused staff member from Bar-Ilan University claimed he is not dangerous and requested house arrest. He rejected suggestions of psychiatric evaluation, stating: “My lawyer suggested I play a bit crazy and that would reduce my sentence. I am completely fit and stand behind my actions.”
The suspect also requested to not be held with Muslim detainees, citing fear. The indictment marks a significant case of alleged domestic terrorism planning targeting Israel’s Arab population.
