After years of construction and repeated delays, sections of Jerusalem’s green light rail line are expected to open within days, connecting the city’s central bus station and key transport hubs with the Malha neighbourhood. Combined with the existing red line, the development will make Jerusalem the first Israeli city to operate multiple light rail lines simultaneously, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s public transport infrastructure.

The green line project has faced considerable obstacles since its inception, with various technical and logistical challenges pushing back its completion date multiple times. However, authorities have now confirmed that the long-awaited service is finally ready for passenger operations, raising hopes for a major improvement to the city’s chronically congested transport network.

Once fully operational, the two intersecting light rail lines will provide Jerusalem residents and visitors with improved connectivity across the city’s sprawling geography. The expansion is seen as crucial for reducing traffic congestion and providing an environmentally friendly alternative to private vehicles, particularly as the capital continues to grow and absorb increasing numbers of residents.
