Judge Solberg, chairman of the Central Elections Committee, has ruled that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must pay 29,000 shekels in personal expenses after determining he misused public resources for political purposes. The ruling came following five petitions filed against Netanyahu challenging his use of official channels and resources.
According to the judgment, one of the videos posted on Netanyahu’s official accounts had segments removed during editing that were intended to boost soldier morale, whilst segments highlighting his political achievements were retained. This selective editing was cited as evidence of using public resources for partisan political benefit rather than legitimate government communication.
The ruling represents a significant legal setback for the Prime Minister, establishing judicial precedent that official government resources and platforms cannot be utilised for campaign purposes. The 29,000 shekel fine represents partial restitution for the misuse of public funds identified across the five cases examined.
