Knesset Committee Chair Defies Supreme Court Ruling on State Comptroller Election

The chairman of the Knesset’s Constitution, Law and Justice Committee has criticised the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate the election of a new state comptroller, declaring that the court cannot sit in judgement over parliamentary procedures. Speaking to Israeli media, the lawmaker stated that the court lacks authority over internal Knesset matters, marking a significant escalation in tensions between Israel’s judiciary and legislature.

The dispute centres on the Knesset’s choice of a new comptroller, a position that serves as an independent watchdog overseeing government spending and administration.
