Lebanese Army fails to control South Lebanon as Hezbollah returns to evacuated villages

Breaking

Three and a half months after the IDF transferred responsibility for three southern Lebanese settlements to Lebanese forces, the situation on the ground has deteriorated significantly, according to Ynet reporting. Hezbollah has returned to villages that were evacuated, with the militant group’s aid organizations providing services to residents whilst the Lebanese Army struggles to maintain control of the area.

The failed pilot programme raises serious concerns about the viability of the ceasefire arrangement and may necessitate Israeli military re-engagement in the region. The deteriorating security situation contradicts assumptions underlying the current ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

This development suggests that the Lebanese state’s capacity to fill the security vacuum left by Hezbollah’s withdrawal is severely limited, potentially forcing Israel to reconsider its withdrawal timeline and security arrangements along its northern border.
