Rafi Saar, mayor of an Israeli municipality, and his wife Mital were arrested as part of a major investigation into tender manipulation that has ensnared approximately 20 suspects. The case represents a significant corruption probe into alleged bidding fraud.
Saar’s defence attorney attempted to create separation between the couple, arguing there is financial separation and that Saar had no knowledge of financial matters. Meanwhile, Mital maintained silence during questioning, and Saar denied wrongdoing, claiming: “I did not take a single shekel.”
The arrests come as part of a broader law enforcement operation targeting corruption in municipal governance and public procurement processes.
