Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a strong warning following an incident involving an Omani pilot who attacked a commercial aircraft in mid-flight. Netanyahu stated that ‘whoever sent the attacking pilot will pay a very heavy price,’ signalling a potential diplomatic or security escalation.
According to reports, the pilot underwent what Netanyahu characterised as ‘Islamist radicalisation,’ and allegedly attempted to crash the plane onto its passengers. An Indian pilot, Captain Smit Machchhar, heroically opened the cockpit door while under attack from his Omani copilot and managed to prevent a catastrophe.
An adviser to UAE leader Mohammed bin Zayed declared the incident a ‘dangerous terrorist act,’ indicating regional concern about the security breach. The attack raises serious questions about cockpit security protocols and vetting procedures for commercial airline crew.
The incident has triggered diplomatic responses, with Netanyahu’s comments suggesting potential consequences for parties allegedly involved in organising or directing the attack. The investigation into the pilot’s background and motivations remains ongoing.
