Pilot attempted to crash FlyDubai aircraft; identified as Syrian-born Omani national

The pilot who stabbed an Indian colleague and attempted to crash a FlyDubai flight has been identified as Al-Maimani, an Omani citizen who previously worked for Oman Air. The airline had prevented him from flying after extremist materials were discovered in his possession.

According to reports, the individual underwent radicalisation while in Syria and subsequently worked for Royal Air Maroc before joining FlyDubai earlier this year. He filmed El Al aircraft following 7 October and reportedly intended to crash the aircraft into Israel.

The attack occurred during a flight, with the pilot stabbing his Indian co-pilot in the incident. The individual’s identity and background details emerged approximately 9 hours after the attack.
