Prison officer denies helping accused murderer escape, claims investigation has destroyed her reputation

A senior prison official has vehemently denied accusations that she assisted a man accused of murdering Binyamin Razi, insisting that an investigation into her conduct has unfairly branded her as a woman infatuated with a criminal. The officer, who works for the Israeli Prison Service (Shin Bet), rejected claims made during questioning that she had a romantic relationship with Avihur Sasson, the main suspect’s brother. ‘We had no physical relationship. I care about him as a person, nothing more,’ she stated in her defence. The allegations against her form part of a broader investigation into whether Sasson received assistance while evading capture. The prison officer has also launched a scathing critique of police handling of the case, accusing investigators of subjecting her to what she describes as a ‘shame campaign’. ‘They’ve turned me into a stereotype—a low-level worker who falls for a criminal while she has children at home,’ she said, expressing frustration at what she characterises as character assassination by authorities conducting the investigation.
