Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has urged both Iran and the United States to commit to resolving their differences through diplomacy, amid rising regional tensions. During a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday, Al Thani stressed the importance of finding a peaceful path forward between the two nations.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry said Al Thani called on both Washington and Tehran to implement a memorandum of understanding previously agreed between them, with the aim of ending military confrontation. Qatar, which has long positioned itself as a regional mediator, has repeatedly sought to encourage dialogue between hostile parties in the Middle East.
The call comes at a time of heightened concern about potential escalation in the region, with various international actors calling for restraint. Qatar’s diplomatic efforts underscore its self-appointed role as a bridge-builder in Middle Eastern affairs, though the effectiveness of such mediation efforts remains uncertain given the deep-rooted tensions between Washington and Tehran.
