At least ten people have been killed and over 18 others wounded following a Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s Kharkiv region in the north-east of the country on Tuesday. The strike targeted a busy civilian area, raising fresh concerns about the escalating toll on non-combatants in the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack on social media, describing it as “brutal”. He highlighted that the Russians targeted a populated intersection in Pecheniky that contained a post office and shops, and was surrounded entirely by residential buildings. The deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure underscores the continued pattern of attacks on populated areas throughout the war.
Zelensky vowed that Ukraine would respond to the Russian strike. The attack is the latest in a series of missile bombardments against Ukraine’s second-largest city and its surrounding region, which has faced repeated Russian assaults since the invasion began.
