Israel is bracing for another day of intense heat on Friday, with temperatures climbing further across most regions of the country. The meteorological service has warned of heavy to extreme heat stress affecting the majority of areas, particularly inland and in mountainous regions, whilst conditions remain hot and dry. Coastal areas are expected to experience somewhat less severe conditions, though relief is unlikely before Saturday when temperatures are forecast to drop back to seasonal norms.
The heatwave will place considerable strain on the country’s infrastructure and residents, with meteorologists describing the heat stress as reaching critical levels. Eilat in the south will be amongst the hardest hit, with highs of 40°C expected, whilst other southern communities such as the Beit She’an valley and Tiberias will see temperatures reach 38-39°C. Northern locations including Safed are forecast to reach 34°C.
Temperature forecasts for Friday and overnight include: Jerusalem 19-32°C, Tel Aviv 23-31°C, Haifa 24-31°C, Safed 18-34°C, Tiberias 22-38°C, Beit She’an 24-39°C, Ashdod 24-31°C, Beersheba 22-34°C, Mitzpe Ramon 21-34°C, and Eilat 28-40°C. The variation between coastal and inland areas reflects the moderating effect of sea breezes on Mediterranean-facing regions.
