Son kept mother’s body in freezer for three years while collecting her pension

Officers attended the home of Christopher Phillips, 60, in Britain after medical professionals lost contact with his mother, Sylvia. When questioned, Phillips claimed she was in London visiting relatives. During a search of the property, officers found the frozen body covered with flowers and accompanied by a birthday card. The remains had been stored in this manner for approximately three years. Throughout this period, Phillips had been collecting his mother’s state pension payments, receiving around £80,000 in benefits to which he was not entitled. The discovery has raised serious questions about how the situation went undetected for such an extended period and highlights gaps in welfare safeguarding systems designed to protect vulnerable elderly citizens.
