Swimmers and beachgoers are being urged to exercise extreme caution over the coming weekend, with the Israel Meteorological Service warning of dangerously high waves, strong winds and powerful currents expected along the Mediterranean coast. Waves are forecast to reach heights of 2.5 metres, creating hazardous conditions for anyone entering the water.
The alert comes ahead of what is expected to be a brief respite in weather conditions, though temperatures are likely to remain warmer than typical for the time of year. Authorities are advising the public to avoid swimming during the period and to take extra precautions if they venture near the shoreline.
The dangerous sea conditions are expected to persist through the weekend before conditions begin to stabilise. However, forecasters warn that mid-week next week will bring a fresh heatwave, with temperatures climbing significantly above seasonal averages. The return of the heat will follow the current spell of rougher weather, marking another shift in Israel’s volatile spring conditions.
