The "Rouch Nashit" association, which helps women victims of violence to achieve financial independence, and the family of the late Prof. Yossi Katan, who was one of the founders of the association, is proud to present the winner of the "Ot Katan" for social involvement and promotion of gender justice for 2023. This year's winner is Dr. Ruth Levenstein – Lazar , in addition to her impressive academic achievements, is committed and works in a continuous, extensive and influential manner to promote gender social justice in the State of Israel.
Dr. Levenstein-Lazar is one of Israel's leading legal experts in the study of sexual violence against women. She currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the College of Management.
Beyond her leadership and academic research, she created bridges between the academy and parallel social spaces, and conceived, led and implemented the legal clinic for women's rights at the College of Management, a voluntary clinical and pedagogical enterprise, in the spirit of the late Prof. Yossi Katan. Thanks to the legal clinic, members found her The "Ot Katan" committee deserves to receive the award. Within the clinic, Dr. Levenstein-Lazar initiated and carried out dozens of unique projects.
Dr. Levenstein-Lazar's clinical activism includes promoting bills, holding conferences and roundtables in the Knesset, and in general, on various issues, including: sexual coercion, prostitution and the attitude of the police, access to legal aid in Amharic, girls at risk, sexual offenses on the Internet, double exclusion of women in the labor market , the statute of limitations for sexual offenses, the obligation to report domestic violence, women giving birth and ultra-Orthodox women, and more.
Dr. Levenstein-Lazar contributes a lot of her lectures and her time to imparting the values that serve as a candle to her feet. She lectures at every opportunity on criminal law, gender and violence against women as well as concepts of justice, equality and social change.
Prof. Yossi Katan (deceased) was an example and model for combining a groundbreaking academic career in the field of social work and social policy in Israel with extensive social and gender involvement and action. For many, he was a magnet in his uncompromising fight for social justice. After the death of Prof. Ketan in March 2012, the sons and daughters of his family decided, in cooperation with the "Rouch Nashit" association, in which he worked since its founding, to continue to preserve his legacy by giving an annual token of appreciation to an academic personality, dedicated and committed to gender social action, in parallel with her academic work.
The purpose of "Aut Ketan" is to promote voluntary social involvement of academic researchers, which contributes to increasing social-gender action and social-gender justice. This, of course, along with awarding recognition and recognition to the winner.
