US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing significant tariffs on imported drones and drone components, in a move aimed at protecting American manufacturers and addressing national security concerns. The new duties will vary depending on the classification and origin of the unmanned aerial vehicles, with sensitive national security-related drones facing the highest rates.
Under the new tariff structure, certain drones deemed critical to national security will face a 100% import duty, whilst smaller models will be subject to a 25% tariff. Imports from the European Union and other countries will be charged at 15%, whilst goods originating from Britain will attract a 10% levy, according to a White House statement.
The move reflects a broader Trump administration focus on reshoring manufacturing and reducing US reliance on foreign suppliers, particularly in sectors considered strategically important. Drone technology has become increasingly significant for both military and civilian applications, from border security operations to commercial delivery services and surveillance work.
