Two men have been arrested and accused of operating illegal brothels in the Kariyot area of northern Israel, allegedly exploiting young women in desperate circumstances. Rotem Gron, 38, and Sharon Martziano, 43, are suspected of coercing vulnerable women into sex work through threats, intimidation and financial penalties. According to investigators, many of the women exploited were homeless, whilst some struggled with drug addiction, making them particularly susceptible to exploitation.
The case has uncovered a disturbing pattern of abuse. One woman allegedly lived with Gron and was forced to pay 30,000 shekels (approximately £6,500) when she attempted to leave his operation. The scheme reportedly generated substantial sums of money through the systematic exploitation of women in precarious situations who had few other options or support networks to turn to.
The investigation reveals how the two men allegedly used a combination of threats and financial coercion to keep women trapped in the illegal sex trade. Vulnerable individuals—particularly those facing homelessness or substance abuse issues—were targeted and controlled through intimidation and mounting debts designed to ensure their continued compliance.
The arrests represent a significant operation against human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Israel’s northern region. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and may uncover additional victims and criminal activity related to the operation.
