The framework represents a significant diplomatic effort to stabilise the Israel-Lebanon border region, which has remained volatile amid wider regional tensions. The pilot zones in southern Lebanon are particularly important as they would allow the Lebanese government to extend its control over areas previously dominated by Hezbollah and other militant organisations.
The US official stressed that the Trump administration remains committed to the peace process, which is expected to advance following last week’s meeting between Lebanon’s president and Trump. This backing from Washington is seen as crucial to maintaining momentum in the negotiations, which have been ongoing for several months with varying degrees of intensity.
The talks come at a particularly sensitive time for the region, with efforts to prevent escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border becoming increasingly urgent.
