The United States Central Command announced on Wednesday that it has completed a fresh round of strikes against Iran in response to recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. According to the statement, American forces struck more than 80 targets using precision munitions across a range of military installations and capabilities.
The targets hit included air defence systems, command and control networks, and coastal radar sites. The operation also targeted Iranian anti-ship missile capabilities and destroyed more than 60 small boats operated by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, which have been involved in harassment and provocation operations against international shipping in the strategically vital waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping lanes, through which roughly one-third of global maritime trade passes. Tensions in the region have escalated in recent months, with Iranian-backed forces conducting attacks on commercial shipping and military vessels, prompting responses from the United States and its regional allies. The latest American operation represents a significant escalation in the military confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
