The Israeli military has killed Mohammad Imad al-Rahman Abu Taima, a senior Hamas commander who led the Nuchba unit during the 7 October attack on southern Israel. The strike was carried out in southern Gaza on Tuesday. Abu Taima was among the militants who infiltrated Kibbutz Nir Am during the initial assault that killed around 1,200 people across Israel.
Throughout the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Abu Taima has held significant operational responsibility, commanding the Nuchba unit—Hamas’s elite military squad—in ambush operations against Israeli Defence Forces troops. The Nuchba unit, which forms part of Hamas’s military wing, carried out some of the most devastating attacks during the 7 October assault.
Beyond direct combat operations, Abu Taima has been involved in maintaining the fighting capability of Hamas militants and recruiting new operatives to the organisation’s armed wing. Israeli intelligence assessments indicate he has also been instrumental in planning additional attack operations in recent months.
