Firefighters contain major blaze at Israeli settlement near Jerusalem

Firefighters from the Jerusalem district have brought a significant fire under control at Kesalon, a settlement located near Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem. The blaze, which broke out on Sunday, posed a threat to the residential community before crews managed to contain it. No damage to homes has been reported and there are no known casualties from the incident.

Fire crews continue to operate at two active fire zones within the settlement as of the latest update. Firefighters are carrying out final extinguishing operations, tackling smouldering areas, and conducting systematic searches of the affected region to prevent the fire from reigniting. Such containment measures are standard procedure for large-scale fires in populated areas, where hidden embers can reignite hours or even days after the main blaze has been controlled.

The swift response from Jerusalem district fire services prevented what could have been a far more serious incident. Kesalon, like many Israeli settlements in the region, is vulnerable to fires during the dry season, when vegetation becomes highly flammable and fires can spread rapidly across hillsides and towards populated areas.
