Tax authorities investigate southern dentist over £2m income discrepancy

Israel’s tax authority has launched an investigation into a dentist from Beersheba in southern Israel on suspicion of failing to report income worth millions of shekels. According to the tax authority’s findings, the discrepancy between actual deposits and reported income exceeds 10 million shekels (approximately £2 million). The investigation centres on allegations that the dentist significantly underreported earnings whilst also omitting real estate assets from financial disclosures. Additionally, tax officials have identified that the dentist failed to update his registered residential address on file. The case highlights ongoing efforts by Israel’s tax authority to crack down on unreported income in the private healthcare sector, where cash-based transactions can sometimes evade official records. Dental practices have previously been a focus of tax investigations in Israel, with authorities working to ensure healthcare professionals declare all earnings from their patient services.
