Pilot arrested after stabbing colleague and attempting to crash FlyDubai aircraft

Breaking

A pilot employed by FlyDubai has been arrested after allegedly stabbing an Indian colleague and attempting to crash the aircraft during flight. The pilot, identified as Al-Mamari, is an Omani citizen who previously worked for Oman Air, which had prevented him from flying after discovering extremist materials in his possession.

According to reports, Al-Mamari underwent radicalisation whilst in Syria and subsequently worked for Royal Air Maroc before joining FlyDubai earlier this year. Investigators allege he filmed Israeli El Al aircraft following the 7 October attacks and expressed intentions to destroy an aircraft in Israeli airspace.

The incident represents a significant aviation security threat and has raised concerns about vetting procedures at regional airlines. The pilot was taken into custody shortly after the aircraft was diverted and safely landed.
