The Israeli Defence Force has confirmed the elimination of Mohammad Bassam Mohammad Musthaha, a Hamas military commander, following an operation in northern Gaza on 30 July. Musthaha held the rank of platoon commander in the Shati Battalion, the military wing of the Hamas terrorist organisation.
Musthaha was among the militants who infiltrated Israeli territory during the 7 October attacks and subsequently participated in holding multiple Israeli hostages in captivity. Among those held by his unit were Tsachi Idan, Staff Sergeant Noa Martziano, Ziv Berman, Amri Miran, Uri Magidish, Naama Levi and Matan Angrist.
The confirmation of Musthaha’s death comes as part of ongoing Israeli military operations targeting Hamas leadership and infrastructure in Gaza. The IDF has made locating and neutralising commanders involved in hostage-taking a key objective of its operations in the territory.
